Event Description: A graduate of the University of Puget Sound, Jordan Hanssen was born in Mobile, AL, in 1982 and was raised in England, Ireland, New Mexico, and Washington State. His family imbued him with a love of travel that has taken him down rivers in Thailand in bamboo rafts and cycling through the French Alps. In 2006 he rowed from New York to England with three others in a 29-foot rowboat, and Rowing Into the Son (Mountaineers Books, 2012) tells his story about that experience. Since then he has canoed hundreds of miles of the Rio Grande and rowed all over the Pacific Northwest, including a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island by rowboat. In the spring of 2013 he rowed from West Africa to Miami, FL—again in the 29-foot rowboat with three friends, but this time to bring ocean science into school classrooms along the way. When not traveling or writing, Jordan lives in Seattle, WA. This program is co-sponsored by the Bainbridge Public Library and the Traveler. FREE. For more information, visit or call 842-4162.
